Fast Accurate Catalyst Simulations
Solving the Catalyst Puzzle
Calibrating a catalytic converter model is very tricky. There are so many reactions that happen in a catalyst. Since all the reactions are interrelated, when you tune one reaction, you have changed the others. It’s like solving a Rubik’s cube. But we have figured out the methods to solve it more quickly and accurately. Let us take care of your catalyst models, to help you achieve an optimal design.
Typically, tuning a catalyst simulation requires data from special tests, including various light-off curves, oxygen storage tests and lambda sweeps. While we can use that data, we do not require it. We can tune a catalyst simulation with just cycle data that starts with a “cold” catalyst (e.g. FTP75).
We can achieve within +/- 1% average emissions over a cycle (simultaneously for CO, C3H6 and NO). The plots below demonstrate the high level of accuracy that we are capable of.
With highly accurate catalyst models, we can interpolate and plot surfaces of PGM cost vs emissions. We can create contour lines on these surfaces (of equal emissions). We can then find the optimal point on that line of minimized costs (while meeting emissions targets).
